If you’re producing videos or other types of information products such as e-books and the like, you’ll often find the need for good looking, quality texture style images to use as backgrounds or backdrops in your production. If you do a little digging around the Internet you’re sure to find quite a number of these that various graphic designers have made available for free use. Deviantart.com can be a great resource for finding such images. But, searching through that, and other such sites for quality images that the artist has released for free use can be somewhat of a chore. And, truly unique and high-quality background images seem to be somewhat few and far between.
A very talented artist by the name of Derek R. Audette regularly posts such images to his Blog located at: Http://MyBlog.OttawaArts.Com In exchange for the preceding link back to his site, I have obtained from him permission to publish a few of his offerings here. But, if you’re doing work which finds you regularly requiring such images, you should make a point to bookmark his site and visit it often. He regularly posts new images which can be used for free — and I find his designs to be very unique. So, using them is sure to give your production a different sort of look and help it to stand out.
Here are five free background texture images offered by D. Audette:
Please note, however, that the background images above are only to be used in non-commercial productions. If you wish to use the textures in commercial projects, Mr. Audette makes each of the images he posts available for purchase on a royalty-free basis, from this site at: http://www.dreamstime.com. This means that, by visiting his Dreamstime site, you can easily purchase them on-line, along with full rights to use them in your commercial products, for as little as about $2.00! And the same images displayed above, when purchased from his Dreamstime site can be obtained at much higher resolutions — many as high as a whopping 25 megapixels, and almost all of them are available at at least a maximum of a full 12 megapixels.
Also please note that, unless you obtain special permission from Mr. Audette, as I have done, you may not redistribute any of these images. You may not upload them to your own web server and/or make them directly available as a download from your website. They’re only to be used by you as part of a production — an e-book, a video, a webpage design, etc. If you wish to make these images available on your own website for people to download, do so by providing a link to the artist’s web-pages for each image, located at: Http://MyBlog.OttawaArts.Com. Or, e-mail Mr. Audette and ask his permission in exchange for a link or review on your website, as I have done.
If you need more such images, licensed on an entirely royalty-free basis to use practically unrestricted in your commercial productions, which you can obtain for just a couple of dollars each, you should try checking out these sites:
Also, as I mentioned before, be sure to keep checking out Mr. Audette’s Blog at Http://MyBlog.OttawaArts.Com! Along with regular updates of free high-resolution texture and background images, he also often posts free custom Adobe Photoshop™ Brush sets, custom shapes, vector graphics and the like. You can also try your hand at searching around the internet, as there are other graphic design artists with blogs who are also doing the same thing.
